Amarachi Onyema is a Nigerian-born fashion designer.
She discovered her design flair and began sewing as early as age 7. Despite her interest in fashion, she pursued a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Upon completing her degree, it became clear that her interest in designing was more than just an interest; it was a calling. She soon decided to follow her calling and develop her talent.
Amarachi is almost entirely self-taught. She interned under a tailor in 2018 for about a month, where she learnt to draft and cut basic sewing patterns, after which she continued to develop her craft by watching YouTube videos, studying the construction of clothes she’d come across, and watching fashion shows and documentaries.
Amarachi began designing officially at age 22, and in February 2019, ÖMARA ATELIER was birthed. She is now a graduate student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design.
